Oh wow! Eight months ago, I opened my mouth and said, "I want to start selling clothes made in Nigeria by Nigerians." I figured it would be easy-buy a sewing machine, buy some fabric, hire a tailor, and set up a website- no problem, right? Well, a task that was supposed to take me a few weeks has taken me several months. I won't bore you with the details; they don't matter. Plus, I set today as the final deadline when I would introduce Omowale Expressions to the world via this website. That today has turned into yesterday. I am exhausted, so this first post is all about the Thank You's.
First, to Mrs.Afolayan (Felix) Toyin, the lady whose masterpieces she created for me led me to the inspiration to share Nigerian tailors' talent and fashion to the world. To my boss, who was gracious enough not to be concerned if my starting this adventure would interfere with the role he hired me to do when I came to Nigeria. To my team of master tailors, web designers, and associates, I want to say thank you. You can see them on the Our Story page, and know that there would not be an Omowale Expressions without them. To my family back home in the United States, especially my mother, Linda Faye Jackson, I want to say, "Thank you." I know on many days that they thought this was just another one of my far fetched ideas and a waste of money, but it's here, so let's see what happens. To Heaven Nez Cree, who got a glimpse of the website I created and allowed her artistic spirit to guide me to what you see now. It's not perfect yet, but it's on its way. To the Taylor's and Cathy Scheatzle for understanding and supporting the journey. And to all of you! Thank you for clicking on the link and visiting us. Trust me; this is just the beginning.
I am not a writer, but I love a good story, so I will use this blog as a place to continue to tell you about the Omowale Expressions' journey.
If you don't see something that catches your attention on the site, send us a note and let us know what you want, and we will do our best to create it for it.
We'll see you later, and remember, you are already fabulous; we just help you style it!
Love,
Felicia
